3 Reasons to Love a Style Challenge

Feeling like you’re in a fashion rut?  Consider a Style Challenge from Get Your Pretty On.

Style challenge

I discovered Get Your Pretty On from a friend at a conference this fall. She confessed to me that she used to be a fashion disaster, but all that changed when she started doing style challenges. Given that she looked fabulous all three days of the conference, I was intrigued. I did my first style challenge in the fall and have just started the Winter Challenge and I’m a super fan! It’s what made me add the “style” to my “Color + Style = Confidence” tag line to my website.

After my personal color analysis (see blog post HERE), I finally knew the right colors for me and even already knew how to dress my body shape, but I was having a hard time putting all of that together. My first style challenge changed all of that. These are the three reasons that I am in love and can’t wait for the Winter Style Challenge to start!

Reason #1: Venture out of your comfort zone

It’s good to know who you are, but sometimes we all need a little push. Before the style challenge, I was stuck in a rut. I knew what looked good on me and I went with that. Leather pants and animal print shoes – never. I am way too classic for that! Alison, the founder of Get Your Pretty On, changed all of that. I was so stuck on only wearing my colors, that I would have never bought animal print shoes. Now they’re a favorite. Nope, they aren’t in my color palette, but that’s what make them great. I can wear a t-shirt in my colors, a pair of jeans, and then “pop” the outfit with animal print flats. I am just as comfortable going to the grocery store, but people will stop me and say I look great – bonus!

Reason #2: Take the guesswork out of dressing each day

Speaking of the grocery store, the other part of my rut was only getting dressed when I had to. If I had an event (appointment, coffee date, what have you) that day, I’d get dressed, but only for the event. I LOVE being comfortable, so before and after the event I was back in sweats. My poor husband – that’s all he ever saw at home. My family always said I was all or nothing – dressed to the nines or like a vagabond. The style challenges changed all of that for me. I started with the Casual Wardrobe Builder then did the fall challenge and I can’t wait for the winter challenge to start. The challenge forced me to dress everyday and I learned that I could be just as comfortable when looking put together.

The best part is I don’t have to think about what I’m going to wear. “Dressed to the Nines” takes time. Now with the Style Challenge, I don’t need time to figure out what I’m wearing. I just turn to the next day – no muss no fuss!

 Reason #3 – Save Money

The GYPO Style Challenge helps me spend less by allowing me to shop my closet first and giving me a shopping list of on-trend pieces. I can buy as much or as little as I want. Knowing your colors and body shape helps. I look at what Allison provides and then adjust to suit my coloring and what I already have in my closet. In the Winter Style Challenge, for instance, there is a camel colored coat. Well, camel is not my friend, but my cream colored coat works great! I did buy the leopard booties and a pair of faux leather leggings – what?! Yes!!! I am in love with both – me – the classic! Sam Edleman leopard booties are expensive, but I found them on Poshmark for $75 – score! For faux leather pants, I spent $14 on Amazon and could not be happier – they’re cheap but look great! I thought for sure that wouldn’t be something I would wear, so I wasn’t willing to spend on the trend. Now, when the season is over, I may find a great deal on a nice pair and I will feel confident buying them.

At $39, the GYPO Style Challenge is the easiest way to rebuild your wardrobe and always be on top of seasonal trends. It’s called a ‘challenge’ because you’re challenged to get out of your comfort zone and try new styles. Members include women of every age and stage of life. Most of the women are between the ages of 35-65 in all beautiful sizes from petite to plus.

The great news is the Winter GYPO Style Challenge launched just last week with shopping lists and information. We start wearing our outfits and posting to our Facebook group on December 18, so there is still time to join me!

If you don’t live in a winter-like climate, consider the Casual Wardrobe Builder capsule or the French Minimalist capsule
